Glimet DS Tablet belongs to a group of drugs classified as anti-diabetic drugs. It contains two medicines, which are used to treat adults who have type 2 diabetes mellitus. It also has the ability to control high blood sugar levels in the body of diabetic patients.

Glimet DS Tablet should be taken with food. Take this medicine at the same time every day as directed, preferably in the morning or before a meal, but take it always at the same time to get the most benefit from your medication. Your doctor will decide what dose is best for you and this may change from time to time according to how it is working according to your blood sugar levels.

Continue taking this medicine, even if you feel well or your blood sugar levels are controlled. And if you do not see your doctor, your blood sugar levels could become too high-thus, risking damage to your kidneys, blindness, nerve problems, and even loss of limbs. Remember, it's only a part of a treatment program that must include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor. Lifestyle has a lot to do with controlling diabetes.

The side effects seen most often with Glimet DS Tablet include episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood glucose levels). This is one of the causes of low blood glucose levels. You should be able to identify the symptoms of low blood glucose levels like sweating, dizziness, headache, and shaking and know what to do. To prevent hypoglycemia, you will need frequent meals and always have a quick source of glucose with you, such as sugary food or fruit juice. Drinking alcohol can also increase your chances of low blood sugar levels; its use is therefore best avoided. Other very common side effects of this medicine include changes in tastes, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, edema, blurred vision, bone fracture, and upper respiratory tract infection. Some patients gain weight on this medicine.

If you have type 1 diabetes mellitus, if you have diabetic ketoacidosis, that is, a condition of high levels of acid in the blood, or if you have severe kidney or liver disease, you should not use it. Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you have any heart disease. It may not be right. You should also consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking it. Your blood sugar levels should be checked regularly and your doctor may also advise blood tests to monitor your blood cell counts and liver function.
