Information about Femilon Tablet

Femilon Tablet is an oral contraceptive used for the prevention of pregnancy. It is a combination pill that contains two hormones: desogestrel (a progestin) and ethinylestradiol (an estrogen). These hormones work together to prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary) and make other changes in the body that make it harder for sperm to reach an egg and for an egg to attach to the uterine wall.

Uses

Femilon Tablet is used for:

  1. Contraception: To prevent pregnancy.
  2. Regulating Menstrual Cycles: It can help regulate periods, reduce menstrual cramps, and decrease the risk of ovarian cysts.
  3. Managing Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance: It may be prescribed for conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to help manage symptoms related to hormonal imbalances.

Dosage and Administration

  • Usual Dosage: Femilon is typically taken once daily at the same time each day. It comes in a 21-day pack or a 28-day pack.
    • For the 21-day pack, one tablet is taken daily for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break during which no tablets are taken. A withdrawal bleed (similar to a period) usually occurs during this time.
    • For the 28-day pack, one tablet is taken daily for 28 days, with the last 7 tablets being inactive (placebo). This pack provides continuous daily dosing, and the withdrawal bleed occurs while taking the placebo tablets.
  • Starting the Pack: The first tablet is typically started on the first day of the menstrual cycle (the first day of menstruation) or on the first Sunday after the start of the period, as advised by the healthcare provider.
  • Missed Dose: The management of a missed dose depends on how many pills were missed and when. It's essential to follow the specific instructions provided with the medication or consult with a healthcare provider.
